Why Do I Need Braces?
First and foremost, patients can correct a wide variety of aesthetic problems with quality orthodontic care, including crooked teeth, noticeable misalignments, and gaps. Your smile will look much straighter and more uniform, helping you enjoy a higher level of confidence in your day-to-day life. Many people don’t realize, though, how orthodontics in Roselle Park can also significantly improve your oral health and function in multiple ways, including:
- Easing difficulties with chewing, biting, and articulating certain words
- Reducing overall tooth decay
- Reducing the likelihood of dental injuries
- Reducing the likelihood of developing periodontal (gum) disease over time
Traditional Braces
Traditional braces are the most common type of care available to children and adults, and their durable, reliable nature can create significant improvements for smiles of all kinds. They are comprised of brackets and archwires that exert gradual pressure on the teeth to shift them to their ideal positioning. Regular follow-up appointments will allow our team to adjust, tighten, and replace your archwire to keep your teeth moving in the right direction. Several material options are available, including metal and tooth-colored ceramic.
With traditional braces, you can expect overcrowding, gapped teeth, and even complex bite alignment problems to be easily treated, allowing you to enjoy a more pleasing aesthetic and improved oral health once finished with treatment.
It is important to remember that with metal braces, you will need to be mindful of what you eat and ensure optimal oral hygiene. Specialized brushes and flossers can make cleaning your teeth and appliances much easier, and avoiding coarse, hard, and sticky foods can mitigate the potential for dental emergencies.
Children’s Orthodontics
When your child’s teeth appear crooked, overcrowded, or gapped, or they are developing an overbite, underbite, or crossbite, our team at Roselle Park Dental & Implants can quickly spring into action. Using children’s orthodontics, we can work to minimize the need for more invasive treatment later on by targeting problem areas early on with safe and effective appliances that are made to shift teeth into the proper position.
Invisalign®
If you or your teen are not willing to commit to wearing traditional braces because of the appearance-based sacrifices involved, there are other options available that are more pleasing to the eye. Invisalign® in Roselle Park eliminates the bracket-and-wire system entirely and replaces it with clear, comfortable aligners. Created based on the impressions taken of your smile, you will receive customized aligner sets that you will wear throughout treatment. For two weeks, you will wear each aligner for 20-22 hours a day. This will ensure gentle pressure is continually applied, causing your teeth to move in the right direction.
You will be expected to maintain regular follow-up appointments with our team and are free to enjoy all your favorite foods as long as you commit to removing your trays before eating or drinking (anything but water). With Invisalign, you’ll also be able to enjoy greater oral hygiene because of the ease of cleaning your teeth and gums. Your brushing, flossing, and rinsing routine will not change, and you’ll only need lukewarm water, clear soap, and a soft-bristled toothbrush to effectively clean your aligners.
Although each patient’s case is different, you can expect to achieve your desired results much quicker than with traditional braces.
